Mechanical Problems

When ever a motor is started on DOL / ATS / Star Delta / Etc , The motor experiences a sudden acceleration and which in turn result in unbalanced / unwanted mechanical stresses resulting in to :-

The sudden mechanical impact :-

At start up on the load, followed by the rapid acceleration to full speed causes excessive wear & tear on:

  • >> Belts and pulleys
  • >> Gears and chains
  • >> Couplings and bearings
  • >> Cavitations in pumps, and more

Also, over the period, user experiences damage to the foundation of the motor [ typically for the HT motors as those are big in size and heavy ] , frequent replacement of the bearings, miss alignment of the motor and load, increased noise of the mechanical moving parts [ shaft / bearings / chains etc]

There are case specific problems, such as,

  • >> Chipping of the pump blades due to sudden clash with the settled sludge inside the pump
  • >> Miss alignment / unbalancing of the high inertial loads such as fans / blowers etc
  • >> Increased backlash in the couplings,
  • >> Sag / lost tension in the chains
  • >> Increased wear in the gear tooth in the gear boxes
  • >> And many more…

With all these problems, the users experiences,

  • >> Short system life
  • >> High maintenance cost
  • >> Unscheduled shut down
  • >>Unnecessary investment and storage of various spare parts
